The Journey
The seed was planted years ago when the Lord laid homeless outreach heavy on my heart. Like many others, I thought I would take the initiative and get myself involved by volunteering with homeless organizations in the area. Much to my surprise, this would not be as simple as I first thought. Many organizations wanted applications filled out for them to review and determine if they wanted a volunteer with my credentials and experience before approving or denying my application. Others would not even discuss the possibility due to the fact that I was not a Doctor or Phycologist. I was beginning to become frustrated with the barriers I encountered in my efforts to help the homeless.
As with anything else, when the Lord lays things on your heart, He will make a way. He lead me to a particular individual that would then connect me to a Christ based organization doing homeless outreach in Pittsburgh as well as his own Christ based organization in Washington County. Much to my surprise, nobody made me fill out any paperwork or divulge if I had a degree in any particular field before hitting the streets. I was hooked immediately. The passion to serve the homeless was further solidified during a mission trip to Los Angeles, CA. Being part of homeless outreach on Skid Row, one of the largest stable populations of homeless people in the United States, is an experience that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.
Unexpectedly, I was led to buy a smaller size stock tank for baptisms but I had no plans to baptize anyone or knew of any events scheduled with organizations that I was associated with that would need a stock tank for baptisms. I was obedient, purchased the tank and put it away where it stayed for 6 months. There were discussions and following plans to have a breakfast for residents of a local county housing community and I brought the tank, filling it up outside before the breakfast and 3 people were baptized that morning. Since that time, the Lord laid it on my heart to purchase a larger tank, trailer, and all of the other items that I needed to start this journey baptizing those in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit as Jesus commanded in Matthew 28:19-20.
Eternity Spring was born, homeless outreach and mobile baptisms. Our team makes weekly rounds to the homeless camps in Pittsburgh to provide hot meals, hygiene items, and other supplies that are seasonal in nature. I am thankful for all that He has provided for us including this and other avenues to serve Him and others.
Thank you for your interest in our journey, and what is to come.....
